Quickstart
This guide walks you from an unboxed Chester X1 to live data in the GrainLink dashboard.
What you need
- One Chester X1 controller (with solar panel and mounting bracket)
- One or more sensor cables suspended in your bin
- A GrainLink account (sign up here)
- A clear view of the southern sky for the solar panel
- Cell coverage at the bin site (any major Canadian carrier)
Steps
- Create your account. Sign in at dashboard.grainlink.com and create your first location. A location is a yard or site; bins live inside it.
- Mount Chester X1. Bolt the bracket to the bin roof or a nearby post. The solar panel should face roughly south with no shading from late morning to mid-afternoon.
- Connect the sensor cable. Run the temperature/humidity cable down through the roof port and plug it into the labeled connector on Chester X1. Make sure the cable is suspended freely and not resting against the wall.
- Power on. Toggle the switch inside the enclosure. The status LED blinks blue while connecting, then turns solid green once it has cellular signal and a server connection.
- Pair in the dashboard. In your location, click Add Bin → Pair Device and enter the device ID printed on the inside of the lid. Within a minute, readings will start appearing.
- Configure the bin. Set the grain type, capacity, and current fill level. This unlocks moisture estimation and automated fan rules.
