FAQ
How many devices do I need?
One Chester X1 per bin. Most bins are well-monitored with one device and one or two sensor cables. Very large flat storage may benefit from multiple devices per structure — contact us for a layout review.
Does it work in the winter?
Yes. Chester X1 is rated to −40 °C and is in active use across the prairies year-round. The solar panel still produces enough on snowy days to keep the battery topped up, but you should brush off accumulated snow once or twice a winter.
Do I need Wi-Fi at the yard?
No. Chester X1 uses cellular, not Wi-Fi. As long as you have any major Canadian carrier’s cell signal at the bin, you’re set.
What if I lose cell signal?
Chester X1 stores up to 30 days of readings locally and uploads them when signal returns. The fan relay continues operating on the last received command — it will not unexpectedly switch off if signal is lost.
Can I use sensor cables I already have?
Most likely yes. GrainLink supports the standard digital sensor cable protocols used by most North American cable vendors. Check the supported cables list or send us a photo of your existing cables and we’ll confirm.
How is GrainLink priced?
Hardware is a one-time purchase. The dashboard, alerts, and fan automation are bundled in a per-bin annual subscription. Contact your dealer or our sales team for current pricing in your region.
Can I cancel the subscription?
Yes, anytime. If you cancel, your hardware continues to function locally — you’ll lose remote dashboard access and automated fan control, but on-site readings still work. You can re-subscribe later without buying new hardware.
Is my data shared?
No. Your bin and yard data is private to your organization. We may use anonymized, aggregated data (e.g. seasonal storage patterns across the prairies) for product research, but never identifiable data, and never with third parties.
